Beginning of 2012! A bit bore? too lazy to move? Why not hop hop hop into the creative world!

In this workshop, you will learn the basic properties of clay and how to create using basic forming techniques – pinching and slab work. You will also learn to decorate and personalize your artwork. Last but not least, demonstration on how to use clay to make cute little bunny will be provided!

Got invitation to Popin (group of needle work lovers) Christmas Party. Have to make your own gift for exchange, my hubby is going with me, so here is his first sewing piece (under my very strict supervision!). It is 2 sided coaster using Japanese traditional cloth with herbs inside for aroma. When you put a hot cup of tea on top, the smell will be really nice!!!

I am so impressed by his workmanship, may train him to become an artist !! haha! and yes, he got to make one for me too.

BTW, it was a wonderful party! Thanks Betty for the invitation! (I only bring along my pottery for exchange)

The cat is not sad but I am as the mug cannot take the weight of the cat and crack. It is such a waste, the pearl blue effect is amazing.

Really nice color but glazes run too much, medium size water bucket pot. A bit difficult to make the handle purely by hands and keep it upright during firing, good to enrich the experience.

Blue Pot - medium size, the large lid is convenience for putting cookies or so. SOLD

Actually this is also my favourite pot this round. Different from dragonfly plate, this bowl is result of hardwork and precision. Raku clay bowl with carving and white slip, lightly glaze to highlight the effect. It takes much more time than any other pot but normally it is easier to control the end result. .. meaning not much surprise or heart attack.

Suppose to be a big pot but the shrinkage is more than 20%!! Glazed with copper rust to achieve antique touch.

Medium size bowl with yellow and greenish dot! How come there is tiny brownish dot??? Glaze just fly here and there during firing!

Fish Bowl - more than expected! I really not sure what would happen after firing... It has been a very experimental process. I plan to apply color slip after carving the fish then I changed my mind last minute without any other idea. After bisque firing, I am totally lost as I normally plan the glazing ahead during throwing or trimming. This piece is trying my luck, although the fish pattern is not very clear but the 5 different glazes just blend together and show the best of them.

The handles and high temp has affected the balance of the plate and reshape it a bit but it is still very nice. SOLD

My favourite pot this round! I love dragonfly and this plate effect is totally as expected, not more & not less (actually I would love if it is more than expected!). The procelain plate is a bit irregular and very light weighted so really match dragonfly.

There is usually lots of space at the bottom of the kiln unused because of the spacing and circulation of air for firing. I like to make small things to occupy the space since firing cost is EXpensive!

It has been a loooong time since last update! Yoga class.. more yoga classes... family trip... waiting for firing... keep waiting for firing. Finally I have my whole kiln fired. It is always an exciting moment to open the kiln with lots of hope and expectation! It is a mix and match with surprise and disappointment... a few pots with wonderful color effect stick with the kiln board because of the glazes! I have underestimated the temp this round.

So here are some of the pots, enjoy and it is my pleasure to share the work with all of you! Thank you for checking my blog!

About myself and the class:

I got my teacher training certificate at Ananda Marga Singapore and have been teaching for 3 years. The workout class will be a gentle flow, mixture of hatha style and Ananda Marga Raja-Dhi-Raja Yoga. the class will end with a 5-10 mins meditation session to help attaining a peaceful state of mind.

Please wear something comfortable for the class and bring a small face towel or eyes pillow to enhance your relaxation experience. Avoid heavy meal 2-3 hours before the class, very very light refreshment will be provided after the class.

I was so forgetful, have not upload the pic on Popin picnic, it is really fun with over 40 art lovers working on their unique picnic and combining into a huge one. We have picnic at Lasalle and the food was good too. Of course the one showing chuchu's picture is my work (my first sewing work in my life, excluding the one my teacher forced me to do when I was 14 yrs old). We are going to exhibit this huge picnic cloth again around August.

Rescued an abandoned kitten 5 wks ago. She was 3 days old that time inside an ice cream box at my condo lobby.

Never take care of infant before, feeding every 2hrs even at nite, help poo & pee (kitten cannot poopee themselves in first few wks), keep warm at nite. It was really tiring for me and hubby... But we witnessed her eyes open, feeling her first bite with tiny teeth coming out, her first self pee pee under my desk, first poopoo in my bedroom.. and first time using her toilet to do the right business, first walk, first run, first hop....it is fascinating!

I am hoping that my rabbits will get along with her... but chance is not high... i know we will miss her alot if someone adopt her at that end but our love will be with her.

Because of the baby.... stop pottery for wks... sorry no new items available, will get back to work soon..... don't be surprise if u c some cat pottery in future !!

Miracle during New Year!

This is a strange story...
I was going out of my condo at East on 2 Jan, then noticed a small dog wondering around with no owner and following anyone passing by, even entering Cokld Storage and get kicked out fm there. Poor doggie, I am scared it will be hit by car and she is really cute. I lead her to the pet shop and ask the girl inside abt the dog, she has no idea! I got to go, so I beg for to keep the dog inside and I wrote note at Cold Storage notice board hoping the owner is seaching for her.

At nite, I went back with no news, the shop is closing & I cannot keep a dog, my bunnies was so stressed to hear the barking. So I am asking my good friend (Shukla) to keep the dog for the nite. We brought her to vet next day but she has no microchip (it seems hopeless). She barks everytime she is alone at home, it is really difficult with lost of headaches and cleaning the house during the 2 days.

We called SPCA, no Jac Russell lost recently. And 2 days later, we found an great adoptor and planning to take the dog to new home 2 days later. That min, Shukla searched the Dog Society www and found a pic looks very alike but lost 5 mths ago at Tampines. No way, I was really not considering that, but Shukla wanted to call and try. Ends up, she is the dog.

I hv no idea what happened to her during the mths... and we find the owner just when we were giving up. So lots of time and money spent, apology to the potential adoptor, missing the dog alots.... but we are so happy for her. I hope she will have a good life forever.

So please, dog owner, microchip yr dog, not many dog could be so lucky.

Christmas lunch

After switching to vege based diet, it becomes easier to cook at home than to eat outside for celebration. Most of the restaurants are serving special menu and it is hard to get something vege and nice. This morning we have prepare our lunch and since I am a potter, we are having fun using own pots to serve food. I rushed to eat after cooking, so the pics are so so ..

Above showing yam paste with wasabi & seaweed, sasami mochi and red bean mochi, hijiki and burdock, grill pepper, pickled seaweed, tomatoes, chestnut & tofu brown rice, sweet black beans, really nice fruit bowl. And one more steam vege (don't know what it is in English!) Super healthy and yummy!! ~~~ since it is special day... we hv one more grill fish (not showing here as my yogi friend will be upset to c, sorry poor fish!)

Also thinking of something fun for the festival, make some small fork holder using JP paper. Recycled old glass bottle to repackage. It looks really cute. Only 4 bottles available, extremely useful for Christmas party, everyone can recognize own's fork according to the pattern!

After 2 Sat working at Iluma Art Bazaar, I am now taking a break and upload this pic that I wanted to share with friends for so long!!!! Allow me proudly presenting my homegrown organic (should be) bittergourd. It is indeed very long ~20cm long!! and sine the time is just right, very sweet too with little bitterness taste.

BTW, the art market is good fun, met some new friends and great clients. As usual, I have forgotton to take pics during the event and even forgotten to take pics of some of the latest items which have already sold during mkt. ~~~ it is still on going until end July so if u like handmade items, can still go and have fun.

Finally, the second plate from Dragon Kiln firing is ready~~ I love this lotus plate ! The ashes show a bit now, with some black spot on the plate, the white slip leave veins is nice too. Plan to make a few smaller plates to match.

All just out from kiln, I try to finish all my clay from Japan. Noted that the rabbit in the burner is Josie, it is very funny face. It seems a bit cruel to burn Josie though ~~.

Winter was around when I took th pics, how unreal she is. She looks like a procelain rabbit decorating my place!

Year of Tiger

I was really lazy and has not update anything for looong time. This is year of Tiger already. Hope it will be a good and inspiring year for anyone. In Christmas, I went to Osaka with my family and have a cold winter there. Since then was working on kithen ware for my own use, seems i never have enough but the firing is very slow because of the holidays... so while I was waiting on my work to complete. I was also busy changing my new home into "my home".

Also for those who likes my rabbits, I have 4 now and just 3 weeks before Chinese NY, Chuchu has a short fight with another fostered rabbit "Winter" she is young and huge, Chuchu got bitten seriously. Lucky after visited Dr. Cathy Chan and my 24 hours care service to Chuchu for 3 weeks, she is fully recovered. But I have to stay in Sg alone during New Yr as my hubby went back HK for new year. But it worths, as long as Chuchu can be happy and healthy.

So I am finally back to normal and hope could start my blog activities again.

Today I bought a nice wooden shelf and has been trying to fit it into my kitchen as above. Realized i need to make a few more very small pot for my soya sauce, sesame oil and cooking wine as my current pot are too big.

I planted a pot of rose (a gift fm my friend when i moved this new place) and it seems that I will have one rose every month. Everytime, I will cut it and put inside my pot and it will stay for a week or so and smells good.

I was searching for a metal flower arrangment base for long time, got it yesterday... so have try using for my vase.

I have moved my house and settling down! Everyday I spend lots of time at my rooftop, planting and let the rabbits out to play. Yesterday afternoon I have let Josie out for an hour accompany me doing my gardening. The pumpkin grow crazily, it is just 2 mths old. I am hoping to have some pumpkins before Christmas.

The bigger pots were placed at the back of the dragon kiln, unfortunately the heat not reaching there. The temp just enough to fired the clay but not the ash glazes on top, they look so raw. I will fire those in the electric kiln one more time, hoping that the ashes could melt then.

Woodfiring

I am really stressed with the house moving and the woodfiring happening same month. Woodfiring is the traditional way to fire pottery and involves lots of physical work. Have to monitor and add wood for firing for around 40 hours and setup and clean afterwards. It has occupied 3 weekends of me and I am so tired after that. It is much more difficult to predict the effect as compare with the electric kiln. I have put 10 pots in and after so much work, only 2 successful fired. As above. It is very earthy and very different from normal pottery pcs.

Warrior Bunny is coming to town!
My yoga centre (Ananda Marga Yoga Centre) is conducting a yoga fair at Fort Canning Park on 6th Sep, 10am-6pm. Do come and have fun! We have vegetarian stalls, kids art competition, kids yoga performance, health talks, etc.

And most importantly - House Rabbit Society will have a small corner there, so u can come talk to us and meet our bunnies.
And I will do face painting (don't know why ~~) so come, brighten your day!

Starting to do more 2 bunnies item, need more consideration on the bunnies weight as too heavy may deformed the bowl shape. The rough clay is ideal for the purpose as it is very solid during firing.

I do not eat kimchi, but can use to serve any food too. The lid is reversible, so that it can stand as a small serving plate. I plan to make another one with wider opening so can be my noodle bowl with a serving plate on top, good for lazy one like me, can put some sauce, etc on the plate with the noodle with just one hand then.

Inside with blue glaze, outside with oriental flora painting. Rough clay at high temperature.

I love to paint light blue flora pattern - this one is my dandelion plants (tampopo), my bunnies love to eat dandelion so I tried very very hard to plant myself. Normally it likes cold climate, but I have one growing, so I have to celebrate!!

They are small bowls with 3 legs at bottom. Natural brownish clay with black dots. Glazed with light blue and dark blue respectively. I made the dried grass handle using my lemon grass growing in the balcony. I love the smell! Although it is decorative handle, it is also strong (surprisingly).

Just one and only one plate, I like all Chinese myths and poems and this plate is inspired by the tradition - 5 Bats bring good fortune and good luck and the happy bird is for good news. To match, I added the chrysanthemum shaped handles and glazed with mat light blue.

Homeless Rabbits

HRSS still has around 14 homeless rabbits at the farm. They are truly adorable and deserve a second chance. If you are interested to help fostering them or adopt them, please kindly contact me at amywoowaichi@yahoo.com .

Above pictures are Josie and Winter, the 2 really lovely bunnies has spent 2 weeks at my kitchen corner before sending to the new foster parents.

During fostering period, HRSS will provide necessary supplies e.g. pellets, hay, food bowls, playpen etc. We only ask for limited space, time and lots of love from the foster parents. The fostering period could be 3 months or longer.

2008 Personal Review

2008 has been:
- a sad beginning as my dad has left early 08
- a busy year to complete my yoga instructor class and handling family at the same time between 2 places
- an interesting year to start conducting yoga classes and meeting new friends
- a fruitful year with lots of pottery order and customers and friends who love my work
- a tough year with more rescued rabbits from House Rabbit Society and more involvement
- a happy year with supports from known and unknown friends who are supportive to me on my pottery, on my spiritual development and on my love on animals
- a comforting year with my husband by my side

Maybe I should mentioned financial crisis, etc. but somehow those are tiny dust, not that i've not suffered. But I am richer than the day I was born and I am going to be richer as long as I enjoy and feel my life.

Also, one friend talk to me when she is in trouble, one friend talk to me when she is getting insane, i get help from a few old friends when i needed. I may have made a few new good friends i guess.

I feel less lonely most of the time this yr and I feel stronger too. I am not as sad as beginning of the yr although somehow I will feel pain and cry.

Overall it is good to have 2008. I will be looking forward for 2009 and I will be 39 years old then.

Rare occasion that I apply so much color, but it is an advanced order for Christmas and I am in the mood to color it. The purple is a nice surprise. I have waited for a week before upload this pic, sure now it should be at the owner's hand. I hope she would love it.

Sometimes I will look at a piece for long time, wondering how long it will last, probably 50 yrs, 100 yrs or longer. .. It probably can survives another 100 Christmas!
